Writer’s block is something that both fiction and nonfiction writers face from time to time. It doesn’t matter whether you are a seasoned writer or a newbie, sometimes your mind may just be blank as you stare at your computer screen, unable to type out the words necessary to begin or continue your project. Even worse, you might have deadlines breeding down your neck at the same time.
Here are three ways to overcome writer’s block:
1. Space

One of the best ways to beat any form of anxiety is to get some space by going outside for a long relaxing walk or doing something that relaxes you. You can choose to go for a swim, listen to music, watch a movie, or even take a nap. Most times, we overlook the simple yet effective routine of taking a well-deserved rest. Sleeping can give you the space you need to feel refreshed and able to tackle your project. Similarly, spending time with friends and family can give you the needed break from the black-and-white pages of your manuscript.
2. Write

If you find yourself unable to write, then maybe you should try journaling your thoughts. The pressure of writing a book can sometimes make writing a chore as opposed to a pleasure. But when you journal your thoughts and feelings, you give yourself permission to not be pressured. And from that exercise, once you have dealt with all your self-doubt, you can commence and complete your writing projects.
3. Read

Inspiration for a writer sometimes comes from within, but it can also come from external influences. Reading a book can inspire you to write your book. What you read might even challenge you to write with more precision or great expertise than what you read.
Whenever you find yourself stuck, just practice one of these exercises and you will notice how quickly you get back to writing your masterpiece.
