How authors can find support

Writing can be lonely; it is just you and the computer screen, a notebook or recorder, depending on which writing tools you prefer. Spending hours locked in your head and pouring out content can take its toll on your creativity. So how do you find support and companionship?
There are various ways to do this.
1. Find and reach out to fellow authors
Reach out to the authors whose work you enjoy. Let them know you appreciate their hard work and ask if they would be open to meeting with you - virtually or physically.
2. Attend workshops and seminars
These events lend themselves to networking and socialising with people of like minds. You can get your creative juices flowing from interacting with creatives from all over the world. Try to attend at least two physical events a year, and as many online events as you can manage.
3. Share some of your work
Don’t hide your work. Just as an artist needs an audience to view and appreciate their paintings, you need an audience to read and appreciate your hard work. Create some free materials for your fans. This can help you grow your audience exponentially. Consider meet-ups and social media groups e.g. on LinkedIn and Facebook.
4. Enjoy other mediums
Being a book author does not prevent you from appreciating other forms of writing. Try your hand at other types of writing and see if you might like it. You could try poetry, short stories and screenplays, or even corporate copywriting.
Never stop growing or pushing your boundaries as a writer. Open your mind, spread your wings, and show what you have.
